Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

After the last pair of felted slippers turned out too small I decided to give it another try. I modified my notes to make the slipper wider and longer.
I knit up the pair on the LK150.
And sewed them up. I so enjoy the color blocking on this design. It's something you can't do easily while knitting in the round.
Here is what that unfelted (top) slipper looks like next to the felted slipper I made (bottom).
Here is how it felted up. Sadly, it is still too small for me. I figure the size is around ...

Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

I decided to give felted slippers another chance. This was my second attempt. I make major changes to the design I was using and I'm much happier with this style. Yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes. It felts up so nicely.
These are knit flat on the LK150 knitting machine and then the sides are seamed by hand. The color changes are partially a style choice and partially to assist with lining up that hand seaming.
This time the felting was just awesome! Unfortunately, I didn't knit them big enough so these are really a child ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes when I get a little stressed I think I need more fabric or yarn. This past week was a yarn week. I popped over to the nearest craft store (big box craft store) and bought some Lion Brand Yarn. Most of this is Shawl in a Ball (discontinued, so if you like this ombre yarn head to your nearest big box store and stock up), with a couple balls of Heartland. It seems I was in the mood for purples.
I used the Shawl in a Ball yarn to make a couple shawls on the LK 150. I made ...

Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been experimenting with making felted slippers on the knitting machine. This was my first try.
Sure, it started out huge, felting works like that.
While it felted very nicely, and the length was about right....
The width just wasn't workable. Even more felting wouldn't fix this problem. This was a great learning experience.

I've gone back to the machine and tried again. I changed tension and the way I'm forming the heel and toes because I'm not a fan of that boxy toe. Now to get the second pair assembled and washed. Wish ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been trying to make a shawl with the LK150 knitting machine. I'm not having much success.
That isn't entirely true. I'm having some success. I managed to make the first half of the shawl before I dropped a bunch of stitches.
Then, I managed to make the first half of the shawl again. Again I dropped a bunch of stitches. This is completely operator error. Knitting machines take a level of attention I am still learning.
Then, I managed to complete the shawl, wrong. This was entirely my fault for misunderstanding the directions. Both sides ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes things don't go as planned. I was nearing the cast off of this machine knit hat and managed to drop all the stitches. That just means I got to knit it again. It wasn't the right size anyway.
I cast on again and managed to finish the hat. I'm still trying to figure out the perfect tension and stitch counts to reliably make a beanie appropriate for my noggin. I'm hoping to figure it out so I can make some more charity hats. I should use my Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns to get ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

I came across a video on YouTube that explained how to make a simple beanie on the LK150. Since I'm in the learning stages with the flat bed knitting machine I thought it would be a great way to learn some new tricks, or apply what I know to a practical project.
I used almost all of the weights for this one. The crown decreases are made manually so it is a little slow going. Still faster than my hand knitting.
When it came off the machine I knew it was going to be too large for my little ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

I pulled out this cake of lace weight yarn and decided to try something perhaps a little crazy. I decided to try to make a boxy sweater.
The good news is that the back is just a big rectangle. I used a 20 row hung hem. I used the drop shoulder sweater pattern from The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns: Basic Designs in Multiple Sizes and Gauges. It is a great place to start your sweater-knitting journey if you are a hand knitter. I found converting the stitch counts to machine knitting easy.
Knitting the front of the ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

If you think knitting machines can only knit large flat pieces of fabric you should check out this experiment.
Here is the basic shape before blocking. This project used a single ball of Mandala by Lion Brand. This is the colorway Sirens
After steaming the edges don't curl as much. For this project I used yarn-over decreases combined with short rows to get the curved shape. I also added a couple rows of eyelets at the end. I think this could be so much more fun with additional rows of eyelets. I'll have to pick up some more ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

First, let's talk about creativity. This is what my cutting table looked like on Saturday afternoon. I'm in the middle of more than a couple things. This is my normal state of being and it works for me. Some days it doesn't, but Saturday was a good day. That contraption is the Silver Reed LK150 knitting machine. It is one of the least expensive knitting machines you can get. I borrowed it from a friend to see if I liked working with it.
I fiddled around. I made some swatches. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

It was time for another pair of Monster Socks. The way to know if they are matching is by looking at the cuffs, heels, and toes. These turned out great! Someday I will open my Etsy shop and sell some more of these. Maybe in the fall. They do make great winter holiday gifts.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

More than a few times I've come across proud makers of heel-tab socks. I decided I should give it a try.
I started with this video by Jamie Mayfield. I generally have a rule about weeknight knitting. The rule is I don't knit on worknights. Why? you may ask. Because I have used up most of my attention and focus by dinner time and end up making too many mistakes. This pair of socks was no different. I got to the heel of the second sock and realized I had forgotten to hang the hem. I just cut ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This was a sort of challenge. Since I usually buy a single ball of Knit Picks Felici I have to get creative with contract cuffs, heels, and toes to make that single 50 gram ball into a pair of socks. For this, Knit Picks Stroll is perfect. I've also used their Stroll Tonal as a coordinating/contrast yarn.
These turned out great! I used the entire ball of Felici. It was a fun experiment. I should write down some notes so I can replicate the process.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This time, with self-striping yarn from Knit Picks. This was fun adventure in stitch manipulation. Yarn is Felici from Knit Picks. Knit Picks regularly has this yarn on sale and changes the colorways regularly. I wear socks made with this yarn regularly. It is a delight to work with.

Let's talk about texture. I saw this simply circular sock machine pattern in the Circular Sock Machine Knitters Facebook group. I decided to give it a try. I must admit, I dropped a stitch early on my first try so I had to restart. Overall, a fun way to manipulate stitches and come up with something different.
The next time I try this I'm going to use self-striping yarn. I think that will be exciting.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week I cranked two pair of socks. First up was this great yarn from Knitterly Things. Such great colors in the Vesper Sock Yarn Club. This is the December 2021 colorway Woodsy.
The semi-solid for the toes and heels is just perfect!
These bright socks were made using Activ yarn I purchased from CSM Supplies. If you want to knit with yarn from a cone and have hard-wearing socks, this is the yarn for you. Color choices are constantly changing. I would buy one of each if I wasn't already drowning in yarn.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Here are the October and November 2021 Vesper Sock Yarn Club yarns. Such fun colors. I'm always pleased with the mini skein for contrast heels and toes.
All caked and ready to go. Those that follow my blog know I posted the October socks a little while ago. Check out this post from February 2021 to see those socks.
I love every pair of socks I make.
There they are! Almost finished. All that remains is closing up the toes and they will be ready for feet.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

When I make Monster Socks I'm never quite sure how they will turn out.
I grabbed my brightest speckle and some self-striping with black and pink, pulled in some Knit Picks Stroll in Pucker and Highlighter, and made these beauties. I love Stroll for socks and other accessories. So soft.
I also added yellow toes to this pair made with Activ yarn (color: Colorado) I purchased from CSM Supplies. I would buy all the colors if I could.
